Charlotte, NC – The nation has seen a wave of unrest and removal of symbols, which to many, represent oppression. For one rookie officer with the Charlotte Police Department, this also means the senior officers in his agency.
The young officer, Mike Bellows, spoke to Police Blotter Five-O and explained his position. He mentioned that “There are way too many old guys around here who take the best days off and the best vehicles. I find this as a clear representation of police patriarchal and racist conduct.” The officer, who has been with the agency for less than four months past his field training, is also requesting accommodations due to this hardship.
According to the department, officer Bellows states that working the night shift is a clearly racist punishment toward him since his white skin color shines in the dark like a rave stick. Police Blotter Five-O spoke to the officer’s Sergeant, who stated that he doesn’t care what the rookie things and that “he better get his Princeton head out of his ass before he does it for him.”
